Sarah says (26th February 2010):
>>www.photobox.co.uk are giving away a free card in time for mothers day,. by entering voucher code FEBFREECARD you are entitled to any of their A5/A6 designs, you only have to pay for the postage, the offer ends on the 27TH Feb. You can design your card using one of thier many templates and adding your own photos and personal message, the cards also support the NSPC full stop charity.
the postage costs £1.50 so essentially you are getting a personalised card for less than a nice off the shelf one from a regualr store. I have tried the code and it works.

| Boots Christmas Bargains
|
Sarah says (9th November 2009):
>>Re www.boots.com Bargain Alert
Thank you so much for sending through this offer. My partner and I were both told this week that we were losing our jobs so I needed to go to boots to buy some more protect and perfect serum, some mascara and a new hanging wash bag (whilst I still have an income) but when I saw your offer I went online instead and did very well for myself than you. I bought two of the serums which entitled me to the free no 7 gift, the mascara entitled me to a free 17 gift (false eyelashes which I have always wanted to try) the washbag was part of the 3 for 2 on gifts promotion, so I had a look at those and spotted the perfect present for a dancing fanatic freind of mine which then enabled me to get an extra present for my son free ( a new bionicle - he's ging to love me). Ontop of all that i got the 800 extra points (i have been trying to earn enough to replace my perfume that ran out 3 months ago and this should finally do it) plus i had spent enough to earn free delivery - RESULT.
I always look forward to receiving your emails but regretably had never taken the time to thank you before, for which I apologise.
thanks again
Sarah

>>Many thanks for the M&S voucher Jeanie. Much appreciated.
Another tip for your readers: I attach a link below for craft supplies. Especially now that the weather is becoming chilly, and the recession has caused us to re-think Xmas gifts ... I got my knitting needles out last year and found this fabulous yarn supplier. Everyone received fluffy scarves in 2008. It'll be Frank Spencer type tank tops for Xmas 2009 (maybe with matching legwarmers). Very efficient service and materials at excellent prices - with many special offers and bargains. At Easter time my newly formed "knitting circle" at work made gifts of knitted egg cosies; I am looking forward to displaying my nativity scene made from a beautiful pattern from Christmas collection.

Jayne says (14th October 2009):
>>Hello Jeanie
Just a quick note to say Asda are selling a boxed special of 24 packets of Whiskers Poultry in Jelly 100g pouches(for cats) for £3
This is a brilliant saving as they normally retail at approx £3.48 for a box of 12 pouches. These are not normally in the cat food section but standing near a main entrance of the store, Well at least they are in Norwich and Great Yarmouth. The boxes of 12 in the cat food section are on offer but at 2 for £6.00 so you need to ensure you know this deal is on and would be stacked eleswhere!!!! hope this makes sense and though I would share this bargain.
Keep up the good work

| British Gas
|
Steve Middleditch says (14th July 2009):
>>If you deal with your gas and/or electric bills from British Gas online there is a somewhat difficult to find tariff called WEBSAVER 3 that gives a 6% saving until 01/08/2010
http://www.britishgas.co.uk/products-and-services/energy/our-products/websaver.html
***Jeanie Says***
I'm not sure how that would compare with economy 7, which you can get with all suppliers. You get less than half price elctricity for off peak times. I run my washine machine, dish washer and tumble dryer (when necessary)at night and more than nearly 40% of my use is off peak rates.
***UPDATE***
You have got me thinking about this now so I am going to check to see if I have got the best deal on www.energyhelpline.com - I know whichever one is the cheapest, it is still far too expensive!
|
|
MABJeanie says (15th July 2009):
>>OK - Just checked on www.energyhelpline.com . The nearest and lowest price is British Gas Websaver 3 which comes in at a whopping £243 MORE!!
I am with www.npower.com and I am going to stick with them
|
|
Steve M says (16th July 2009):
>>the results from sites like energyhelpline are only valid if you put in your actual gas/elec usage - after your previous comment I followed the link and found that, using my usage data, if I switch to another supplier instead of going to Websaver 3 I can save an additional £5 per annum - not really worth the hassle
***Jeanie Says**
Hi Steve. It is confusing with all the different tariffs and rates for different areas of the country. I put in the average monthly cost when I checked yesterday. With Economy 7 I am paying 11p per unit mostly for my daytime electricity and 4.4p per unit at night for off peak with www.npower.com . A comparison site like www.energyhelpline.com is probably the easiest way to check if you are getting the best deal. I agree, it is not worth bothering for a fiver.

All numbers including those belonging to children will be open to cold
calling.
To remove your number go here.
http://www.118800.co.uk/removeme/remove-me.html. (you will be sent a 5 digit message to your mobile to input.

Hi Doreen. It is worth reading the Frequently Asked Question http://www.118800.co.uk/faqs.html
It looks like they do not give out your number but contact you to ask you if you would like to be contacted by the person enquiring after your number. They make a charge of £1 to the person trying to contact you. They also say
'Our policy is not to include anyone in the directory who isn’t 18 years of age. However where a parent has given their mobile phone to a child to use, we are unable to identify this unless the parent informs us.'

Jeanette says (10th June 2009):
>>This was passed to me and please pass it to everyone you know so that they do not fall for this scam.
At about 8pm on Saturday evening I found a card that had been put through the letterbox.
It came from a company called Network Link Courier and claimed that they had tried to deliver a package at 4.16 pm.
At that time, everyone was in the house and no-one heard the doorbell.
It also claimed that there would be a `Redelivery Charge' of £2.20 and that we should call the numbers on the card with `your debit/credit card handy to settle the balance'.
I believe this is a scam for the following reasons:
1. No one heard or saw anything at the indicated time.
2. I have tried dialling both of the telephone numbers, one a landline, one a mobile, and they have both rung out. No answering machine or voicemail.
3. I have done an internet search for the company name and found nothing.
4. I accidentally put a coffee cup on the card, and the ink has run. It looks like it was printed on an inkjet printer, and not professionally printed.
5. Their depot is in SW20, far too far away to go and pick it up.
6. Their request for a Redelivery Charge. I have not heard of other courier companies asking for this.
7. No one is expecting a package. If I had managed to get through I would have asked who the package was from.
I suspect this is a ruse to obtain credit card details, with the obvious implications.
If anyone else has received one of these cards, I strongly recommend that you send it on to Scambusters who are a division of the Office of Fair Trading.
Thanks

Jax says (20th May 2009):
>>Dear Jeanie,
I know you have mentioned these before but I just wanted to highlight the double up vouchers at Tesco. Yesterday evening, I took a bunch of vouchers that were due to expire at the end of this month and swopped them for double up wine vouchers (you do this at customer services). You can use these on wines already on offer e.g. a bottle of wine usual price £9.99 on offer for 2 for £10. You use your double up voucher so you pay only £2.50 per bottle less 5% if you get 6 or more!

| BBC REQUEST
|
BBC says (26th March 2009):
>>Hi I have been looking at your website - what a fabulous source of information. I think it would be a great place for us to let people know about a programme we are making. I wondered if you might be able to post something your site for us or email your clients? The information is below: BBC2 is making a programme with Mary Portas - presenter of "Mary Queen of Shops" - about the British high street and how shopping habits are changing to cope with the economic downturn.
They would like to hear from anyone who has a story to tell: ARE you a family who has tightened the purse strings and changed your shopping patterns to save some money? HAVE you mastered the art of finding a bargain and would like to share some of your tricks? OR are you a self confessed shopoholic who is feeling the pinch? How ever you have been affected - contact Jessica at: jessica.stoddart@bbc.co.uk or on 07949 182 865.
I think your site probably has lots of savvy people visiting it who are determined to save money, online has become such an important part in the changing role of shopping and I would love to hear some of your clients views.
All the best

>>Jeanie,
I would just like to say a BIG THANK YOU to you for all your hard work sourcing these amazing bargains!
I so look forward to receiving your emails each week and have certainly recommended your website to my friends who are hunting down bargains.
Keep up the fantastic work!
On a different note - I can remember you mentioned Darren who performed at your daughters wedding. I actually hired him as Elvis at our School Fete last year and he was fantastic as well as a really nice guy. It sounded like a great wedding.
Kind regards
Margaret

Jeanette says (7th November 2007):
>>I have had loads of calls today from 0845 6853000, it is a scam as you can see from below it will cost you £2.50 per minite if you except them, so heres what has been said about them.
"Got an automated call three times in quick succession today "you have
received a reverse charge call, press X to accept the call", no details
of who it was from, their number or how much it would cost. Looking up
the call costs it seems like accepting it costs a min. of 2.50. Is this
a new scam to extract money from your phone account."
So if you want to stop these calls you can try registering with TPS on 0800
398893.
Hope this helps some people out there, good luck Jeanette

What I did was got a years membership online at www.nationaltrust.org.uk before I went, not only did I get A free pair of binoculars I also got 12 months membership for the price of 9 and the best thing apart from getting in all the properties for FREE was that we could use all the National trust car parks just by putting our membership card in the window or your sticker that they send you, we saved a fortune in car park fees it paid for the membership. They have carparks at properties and at Coast and countryside locations.

>>This is a great one - please could you put it out to everyone.
De Vere Hotels again - loads of £25.00 rooms - beautiful big hotels. Room only but I have seen the 'proper price' when I have stayed there - I am going just for a rest in beautiful surroundings. Breakfast and dinner fairly reasonable but can eat out or get something in.
Rooms available all the way through summer - but going quick - these are so, so much better than Travelodge (can you say that?!!).
Be quick though - Leatherhead has loads of rooms - some for an entire week - how cheap is that for two people sharing - £175.00 for two in a fantastic 4 or 5 star hotel for seven days with all mod cons, gym, pool, free tea and coffee, free internet - fabulous!
Hope this helps all your interested 'customers'.

Helen says (18th May 2009):
>>Dear Jeanie
Thomson travel agents say that they are commission free yet they charge you automatically £3.50 for their guarantee buy back service, this is ok if the unlikely events you bring back currency they will buy back your currency for the same amount they paid you. With the Euro fluctuating like it does this might help you only if you have brought it when it is high.
I was still charged £3.50 even though I said that I would not be bringing any money back, their advertisement is on view concerning this but I was told that they charge the £3.50 automatically for everyone.
Perhaps you could relay this on to your readers

Ann says (26th November 2009):
>>Hi
This is mainly for Welsh bargainhunters or regular visitors to wales.
CADW - the welsh equivalent of English Heritage have a long term deal. All their packages are available to purchase in full with TESCO rewards so a joint adult membership of £52 (£57 for a family) costs £12.50 in vouchers+£2 in cash. If it is a gift they get 15 months for the price of 12. If the person giving the gift is a member they get an extra 3 months free. All children, 5-16, who live in Wales, gets free entry to all CADW properties by filling in the form on the website and submitting it.
It gets better. All CADW members get half-price into English Heritage properties AND if you renew for a second year, you get FREE entry into English Heritage. There is also 10% discount on products in the shops. It doesn't seem to be reciprecated from English heritage though!
Great for a cheap trip out to let the kids enjoy the castles.
Regards Ann

>>You may have already heard about it but I thought this was a good saving for summer holidays whilst the kids are off school. so here goes...
This offer's £17 cheaper than using a standard 2for1 at Chessington which'd cost £66 for two adults and two kids (based on two adult on-the-day tickets, £33 each). You can also buy up to two additional individual tickets at £12.25 each, valid for an adult or child. It's first come, first served, so have a few dates in mind. The deal: £49 family ticket for four. Valid: On the day only. How: Call 08444 990 990 to book. Expires: 7 Sept. Excludes: N/A. Offer from: GMTV. Restrictions: Valid for up to two adults. Only valid for advance phone
bookings up to 7 Sept. Tickets subject to availability and non-refundable. Max. two family tickets per household.I have just booked this for my brother as they have a family of five plus another family of three, when booking we were allowed three extra tickets at £12.25 each not two as stated, and also children under five go free.
I hope this helps a few people.

Thanks for that Colleen Ann. It actually mentions it on the first page, so a more detailed link is not necessary. To send a link, just highlight the address at the top of the page you want to show and copy it (press ctrl and c) and then paste it (press ctrl and v) into the tip you are sending. That usually works.

Jean Scriven says (7th December 2009):
>>Hi Jeanie! I have found the most fabulous way of sending your children a Christmas message from Santa and, best of all, it's absolutely free! If you go to www.portablenorthpole.tv enter your child's name, what they would like for Christmas and a few other details, Santa emails you a personalised film/message for them and it's absolutely lovely!! My 4 year old was thrilled to bits with it and has watched it over and over again. I can't believe it's free as it's so good! Best regards. Jean (Glossop, Derbyshire)
Hi Jean, Looks great but the terms and conditions are really long so if anyone spots something wrong please let me know.

>>Thought this was an excellent offer so I would share it with you. Parents or mums to be, registar your details at www.huggiesclub.co.uk. You can then download a voucher for £2.00 off any size huugies nappies. But the bargain is at the bottom right of the page there is an advert for a free mums and babies box that should be £9.99 however free when you buy a packet of newborn nappies.Print off this voucher then take both into sainsburys. I have just been into sainsburys picked up the box and a packet of nappies went to checkout and all it cost me was 47p well chuffed. This is because at the mo newborn nappies are on offer for £2.47. You have to have a nectar card though. The box contains wipes, booties, changing mat and lots of samples. So 27 nappies and a box of treats for 47p

| Railcard Discounts
|
Corinne Oulton says (8th July 2009):
>>16-25 Railcard
Hi Jeanie,
I am in the process of booking lots of Uni visits for my 17 year old and decided to get him a railcard (save a third on travel). As he is looking as far away from home as possible i.e. Edinburgh, the fares can be huge! I found this Code to save 10% on the rail card. Not a huge saving but worth it anyway. If you type in Save10 on the online application form, you get the railcard for £23.40 instead of £26.00. Might buy him a coffee on a long journey!

Teresa says (18th July 2009):
>>Hi, My son got a free 5 year railcard with his Natwest student bank a/c. I think they are still running this offer.

>>Hi Jeanie,
www.jessops.com now have their 'Jessops Digital LCD 8 inch Hi-Resolution 2 GB Frame' reduced to £39.00, available from their shops or on-line with free delivery.
Earlier this year, with a 'Best Buy' recommendation from Which? this frame was around £80. More recently it carried a £49.00 price tag, and now at £39.00 I consider this a very good deal, and I'm seriously thinking of buying one myself at this price.
It has the usual host of extras including facilities for downloading accompanying music.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas ans a thrifty New Year.

***Jeanie Says***
Hi Viv
I have removed the link you submitted with this tip because I have come across this website before. I want to make sure that you and anyone else who reads the tip is aware of the Redsave Terms & Conditions. The excellent prices you have mentioned are on the condition that you purchase a monthly pass which will cost you £19.95 per month. You do get a 30 day free trial but you have to cancel the subscription to stop the payment. That taken into consideration you may not find the prices so attractive. I am not commenting.

>>I researched your top tip about 'Be Broadband' as it sounded good. They very honestly told me that all their call centres are in Bulgaria. This would put me off but I thought I should let you know so that you can make your own judgements. I have had very negative experiences with several off-shore call centres. Perhaps we could start a list on MAB of companies that still DO have British call centres?
***Jeanie Says***
Hi - I did not know that but in the couple of years I have been with www.bethere.co.uk I have never had to call them. I think the service may have been off once or twice but it was only for a very short time and very late at night, so it has never been a problem.

Richard says (7th January 2009):
>>Hi,
Have been a customer of Be for over a year and I am very impressed. Equally used their call centre for help on the router ID etc. and they were very helpful. Much better line than I get with the banking centres in India. www.bethere.co.uk

>>Act quick! For FREE tickets to the Ideal Home Exhibition at Earls Court go to www.eveningstandard.co.uk and click on Offers at the top of their web page.
There are 10,000 FREE TICKETS on offer! It is described as a competition but it appears to be a 'first come - first served' type of promotion. The tickets are available for the period Thursday 25 March to Monday 29 March.
I went on to the site tonight and requested two weekday tickets - they were immediately allocated to me for printing off on my printer.
I consider this a fantastic deal, but to anyone contemplating going to the show I would recommend applying for this offer immediately!

>>It's Back! The Marks & Spencer Cava Wine Deal - 6 Bottles for £18.78 (RRP £44.94) - Instore Only
£18.78
This was previously on offer until the 1st November, but has been re-introduced as from today.
The glitch is that ALL wine and champagne is 25% off when you buy 6 bottles AND Prestige Cava is on offer 2 bottles for £10.
The glitch gives you both discounts, in cash terms not percentages, example:
6 bottles of Cava (Brut / Medium Dry) * £7.49 = £44.94
Less 25% = (£11.22)
Less 2 for £10 = (£4.98)
Less 2 for £10 = (£4.98)
Less 2 for £10 = (£4.98)
TOTAL TO PAY = £18.78 (£3.16 per bottle)
That's a saving of £26.16 or 58% off.

| Bargain Prescription Glasses
|
Olivia Smithson says (12th October 2009):
>>Hi,
I have been following madaboutbargains very regularly and am a huge fan of it. So wanted to share some interesting things here.
Recently, I was searching for good deals for prescription glasses... It was then that I came across PerfectGlasses through Specsavers.
PerfectGlasses features an amazing range of prescription glasses at unbelievably low prices...
Not only do the specs start from as low as £15, these glasses are offered with Free 1.56 index thin lenses and anti reflective, anti scratch and UV100 coating.
It would be a great option to feature www.perfectglasses.co.uk on madaboutbargains so that more and more people can buy high quality glasses at extremely low prices.
