Jeanette says (10th June 2009):
>>This was passed to me and please pass it to everyone you know so that they do not fall for this scam.

At about 8pm on Saturday evening I found a card that had been put through the letterbox.

It came from a company called Network Link Courier and claimed that they had tried to deliver a package at 4.16 pm.

At that time, everyone was in the house and no-one heard the doorbell.

It also claimed that there would be a `Redelivery Charge' of £2.20 and that we should call the numbers on the card with `your debit/credit card handy to settle the balance'.

I believe this is a scam for the following reasons:

1. No one heard or saw anything at the indicated time.

2. I have tried dialling both of the telephone numbers, one a landline, one a mobile, and they have both rung out. No answering machine or voicemail.

3. I have done an internet search for the company name and found nothing.

4. I accidentally put a coffee cup on the card, and the ink has run. It looks like it was printed on an inkjet printer, and not professionally printed.

5. Their depot is in SW20, far too far away to go and pick it up.

6. Their request for a Redelivery Charge. I have not heard of other courier companies asking for this.

7. No one is expecting a package. If I had managed to get through I would have asked who the package was from.

I suspect this is a ruse to obtain credit card details, with the obvious implications.
If anyone else has received one of these cards, I strongly recommend that you send it on to Scambusters who are a division of the Office of Fair Trading.

Thanks

>>The usual scam on this type of card is that the telephone numbers are on re-direct or are premium and calling back can cost £30 or so....make sure you look at your telephone bill as soon as possible. And never never phone these people back!
